Walking into a casino where there is no Roulette table is unfathomable. Popular and historical, Roulette is part of the history of Casino Games where anyone can win and everyone has a chance. Because of this, the instructions are minimal and catching on to Roulette is easy.
Knowing the Wheel and how it works:
The French word "Roulette" means "small wheel" and in the game Roulette makes good use of the small wheel. The wheel has pockets inside of it and each pocket given a number between 0-36 as well as given either a black or red color in an alternating pattern. In traditional Roulette there is a green pocket numbered 0 and in American Roulette there is an additional green pocket numbered 00. The dealer in Roulette is called the "croupier" and is the person in charge of spinning the wheel. The croupier will spin the wheel in one direction and spins the ball in the opposing direction of the wheel. When the wheel slows, the ball will naturally land into one of the numbered pockets of the wheel.
Understanding the Roulette Board and Bets
For betting, there is a large felt board along the side the Roulette table where numbers are displayed in 3 columns and are read downwards. Right above this area are the 0 and 00 squares for more betting options. Along the three columns there are arrows. If you place your bet within any of these arrows you are betting that the ball lands on any one of the 3 numbers in your arrow's row. There are also three arrows at the bottom of the columns. If you place your bet on one of these arrows, you are betting that the ball will land on any one of the numbers in the column that your arrow points at. Now, to the left of the numbered area you will find more options. You will see "1st 12", "2nd 12", and "3rd 12". The 12 represents the third of the 36 numbers. Basically, 1st 12 means 1-12, 2nd 12 means 13-24, and 3rd 12 means 25-36. There are 6 additional squares to the left of these numbers. The outside squares correspond with the 1st and 2nd half of the wheel's numbers. The next squares are labeled "even" and "odd" while the two middle squares are labeled "red" and "black". The betting opportunities are endless so reading on to see what the categories are may help you even further.

Learning Roulette Rules
To win, the ball simply has to land in the numbered pocket that you bet on. If the ball does not, you don't win. In nearly all cases, the game has amazing payouts because it is so simple. At a single table, up to 8 gamblers can place their bets on any color, number, or combination of numbers. The bets can even be placed right up until the ball is dropped into the wheel for a spin. When the round is done, the table is cleared and the Croupier will announce a new betting round.
